Big Drive, Small Drive

Computers

My friend, Shelby, showed me this. It is really amazing how small harddrives have gotten.

And the amazing thing is, there are already 2 or 5 gig flash drivesthat are even smaller than the ones pictured here!Click for full size imageClick for full size image

Computers are just about the only thing that get more useful, and can hold more, as they shrink in size.

He is right you know?I saw they just made the new "solid state drives" wich are like hard drives but entirely flash memory, they have a faster access and use a ton less electricity, boosting battery length to approx. 11 hours on a toshiba sub-notebook. They still cost a whole lot though, nearly 10 times as much, but you have far less problems a’cause there are no moving parts and also because flash memory is pretty durable. They were able to bang this drive on a lab bench while performing diagnostic tests without even a dip in performance.

yup. Once these drives start to fall in price, it’s going to change the way laptops are made and used.

The battery thing will soon be irrelevant because i just ‘membered the Air Force is coming out with a special battery that uses a single radioactive atom to power things like laptops for 30+ years, whats even better, they recharge in less than a second! ;-)

Great picture! I worked aligning the 16 heads of those bit multi-platter dis drives. It’s great that they are gone…
